Cardboard Storage Box

cardboard box storage macrame jute

If you’re often asking yourself “is this cardboard box too good to throw away?” then this is the project for you! The price of storage solutions can quickly add up so when looking to organise my laundry cupboard I decided to pull out some leftover cardboard postage and gift boxes and give them a makeover.

I used a combination of macrame and jute cord to wrap the outside of the boxes and think these turned out great. An easy, affordable and aesthetic DIY storage solution!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

·       Cardboard box

·       Paint and paintbrush (optional)

·       Hot glue gun

·       Jute rope and/or macrame cord

STEP 1

Paint your box (optional). I like to paint the outside in case you get any small gaps between your jute/macrame. I also painted the inside for a more finished look. If the inside of your box already has a nice colour or pattern you can definitely skip this step.

STEP 2

Use hot glue to attach the jute rope to the bottom corner of the box. Continue applying hot glue in a thin line and begin wrapping the jute around the box. Continue securing the jute rope until 1/3 of the box is covered. Cut the jute and glue down the end.

Note: Wrapping the jute rope can be a little fiddly at the beginning but once you get into the rhythm it takes much less time than you might think. You could also get a helper like me – and have one person hot glue and the other follow with the rope.

STEP 3

Repeat step 2 using your macrame cord. When you get to the top of the box cut the macrame and glue down the end.

And there you have it! Cute, inexpensive and easy DIY storage boxes to help keep you organised. Check out how I used these to tidy my laundry cabinet.

You can also use this wrapping technique on jars or any kind of container to make your own upcycled vases and planters!
